BVE is a popular broadcast show that took place in the capital last week. Exhibitors included Sony, Panansonic, JVC and Polecam. For 2013, the show moved its base from Earl’s Court to the London ExCeL centre for the first time.

Not surprisingly for a technology event, BVE was already active on social media channels including Twitter, Google+, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. But whilst the show has great branding with its ‘play’ icon, this was not consistent across all channels.

Boombox worked with BVE at the start of the year to ensure that all their social media accounts not only looked great (and on-brand), but were also connected with all their exhibitors and guest speakers.

Messages were sent to followers of old and defunct accounts ensuring that online conversations were all happening on the correct channels.

Complete profiles were created, along with bespoke Facebook page tabs that linked to the BVE mobile app and event registration forms.

This has been the second event Boombox has worked on this year. We didn’t post live updates in this case, but that allowed us to catch up with clients at show including TV-BAY, whose broadcast show streamed live from ExCeL daily.

The new venue proved to be a success and the BVE team are already busy planning the 2014 event.

BVE is part of the i2i Events Group.

Win a polar bear from black+blumDesign duo black+blum create...

Win a polar bear from black+blum

Design duo black+blum create products for the home and office, combining ruthless practicality with a mischievous and intellectually-satisfying design aesthetic. Their latest product is is a polar bear ice tray who can live in your freezer called brrrrr… Not only does it take the fuss out of making ice cubes, it also stops them picking up taste and odours of other items in your freezer. How cool is that?

To tie in with today’s International Polar Bear Day, a competition to win a brrrrr… was announced via the black+blum Facebook page.

Boombox created a bespoke Facebook competition page tab that included an online form for entrants to add their name, email address and an option to sign up for black+blum newsletters.

The competition is free to enter, just visit the black+blum Facebook page using a computer (not a mobile or tablet) and click on the ‘Win a polar bear!’ tab under their cover image. The closing date is the 8th March. After which time we’ll send all the entrants names onto black+blum so they can choose a winner.

The ice tray is so new that it’s not even on the black+blum website yet (they’re expecting in the next month) but you can see their current product line-up here.

Muc-Off C3 ceramic lube

If you’re a keen cyclist or into muddy sports then you’ll know that Muc-Off are the team behind the famous pink bike cleaner. They’re constantly developing exciting new product ranges, which keep bikes, cars, motorcycles and even caravans clean and sparkling.

Their latest bicycle product is so trick, Boombox thought it need a Facebook page tab all of its own. Muc-Off’s C3 ceramic chain lube is the first of its kind with boron nitride compounds, fluoropolymers and integral UV tracer dyes. By using the special torch that comes with each bottle you can see clearly where the lube has been applied ensuring your bike chain is properly protected, maximising life and minimising pedalling effort.

Animated GIFs have become so huge. They’re everywhere. But why? On the surface, they’re pretty silly—a few frames of video, endlessly looping in time. There are GIFs of Star Trek‘s Picard facepalming, of Dwight from The Office dancing, of one penguin shoving another into the water. There’s Tom Cruise laughing, sports-play flameouts, tons of porn.

This is the sort of one-note joke that—like rickrolling or ermahgerd pics—normally fades after a few revolutions of the international meme cycle. But animated GIFs aren’t dying. They’re metastasizing: People festoon their Tumblrs with them, pass them around in email, and use them as Twitter avatars or signatures on discussion boards. Oxford Dictionaries even chose GIF as its USA Word of the Year for 2012. This is all the weirder considering that GIFs date back to the prebroadband late ’80s. As a medium, they’re quite old.

Ah, but it’s this ancient vintage that helps explain their true appeal. To really understand the value of animated GIFs, you have to go back even farther—to 1879 and Eadweard Muybridge’s “zoopraxiscope.”

Read more @ Underwire!

Neal’s Yard Remedies is an award-winning high street retailer, specialising in organic health and beauty products.

Boombox has worked together with their fantastic Social Media Manager on the NYR ‘12 Days of Christmas’ Facebook campaign, which launched today.

Fans of the organic brand (and there are thousands of them) can enter a daily prize draw to win an organic gift set via a Facebook page tab created and managed by Boombox. The prize changes each day, promoting the NYR range of organic gift sets, whilst a ‘next day’ teaser encourages fans to keep returning to the Facebook page.

The competition runs until the 14th December with Boombox providing daily page tab updates. Boombox also sends the latest data on to the NYR each morning so they can pick a lucky winner.

UK residents can enter the 12 Days of Christmas competition via the NYR Facebook Page (just ensure you use a computer rather than a mobile or tablet when clicking on the link as Facebook page tabs are not currently supported on mobile devices).

If you want to ‘give the gift of organic’ this year, then check out the Neal’s Yard Remedies website here. Ducati UK are celebrating this anniversary with a special competition and Monster stand and at Motorcycle Live, one of the UK’s largest motorcycle shows.

The Monster stand is to be created from UK Monster owner’s stories, poems, videos and photos via Facebook and Twitter accounts setup by Boombox.

The Ducati page tabs allow Monster owners both past and present to upload content in keeping with strict Facebook competition rules. The data software used by Boombox allows stand designers Gyst easy access to high quality images and files. Once the campaign has finished, Ducati UK will be able to use the data uploaded for future email campaigns.

Chiswick Park is home to many UK head offices with Starbucks Coffee Company, Swarovski, Paramount Pictures, Foxtons and Airplus International all calling it home.

As well as being the name of Chiswick Park’s estate management company, Enjoy-Work is the ethos and brand that defines this business community.

As the video above shows, this business park is like no other. Enjoy-work hold regular special events such as 007 stunt school training, festivals, exclusive Proms concerts, camel rides as well as regular guitar and photography lessons.

Social media was a natural fit for a company that loves to interact with park residents. Boombox helped setup Facebook, Twitter and a Linked In company account. Boombox visited the site in Chiswick for initial meetings and then again to provide training to members of the Enjoy-Work marketing team.

We certainly had fun with this project, but suddenly can’t help thinking that perhaps we should make the move to Chiswick in the near future…

BOOM! A big thanks to Slib Design.

Boombox met up with Slib Design founder and owner Ben Llewellyn this week. Ben has been a great help in advising Boombox’s continuing use of fast and secure hosting.

Secure hosting has been required for all Facebook page tabs since October 2011.

Facebook page tabs allow brands space to really get their message across. This can be in the form of embedded videos, email signup forms, the latest campaign or monthly discount codes. The possibilities are endless.

Page tabs are used by many premium brands, and Boombox has created tabs for the likes of Ducati UK, Neal’s Yard Remedies, TV companies and monthly glossies.

We’re still surprised when we see brands using outdated page tabs that either flash up warning messages or that simply do not load at all. Many pages feature old apps that haven’t been updated in months or that promote the app makers rather than the page. If that sounds familiar why not get in touch and get your brand messaging heard.

Slib Design work with solo entrepreneurs and international companies and design beautiful looking (and fast loading) websites. So whilst we can help advise and manage your social media activity, you should speak to Slib Design to ensure visitors to your website are equally impressed.

UK garage punk rockers The Fades recently launched their eagerly...

UK garage punk rockers The Fades recently launched their eagerly awaited Ragnarok album to rave reviews. As part of a teaser campaign, Boombox built a Facebook page tab with an embedded YouTube video.

Fans could download ‘Foot in Your Mouth’ from the album by simply entering their name and email via the page tab. The Fades could then follow up with details about the full album and the launch party at London’s Borderline club.

Foot in Your Mouth | The Fades

Foot in Your Mouth | The Fades

Guess whose photocopier this is? #smwcase #smwlondon (Taken with...

Guess whose photocopier this is? #smwcase #smwlondon (Taken with Instagram at Facebook UK)

Coming back to Myspace?

Coming back to Myspace?

Have you uploaded your new Twitter header yet?

Following in Facebook’s footsteps, Twitter has introduced header images so that your brand can keep a consistent look across computers, mobile and tablet devices.

The Twitter iPad app has also been updated today. “Expand Tweets with a single touch to see beautiful photos, rich videos and web page summaries right in your timeline. Dive into the content with another tap to see the photo, play the video or read links from the web in fullscreen mode.”

Let us know what you think of the updates, and if you need help in creating a new header image or graphics for your Twitter account then please get in touch.

You can follow Boombox on Twitter via @tomboombox.

StyleTails is a new design e-zine for stylish pet owners. It shares the hottest trends in pet products and includes pet fashion, accessories, diet, grooming, interviews and street style.

Boombox was on hand recently to help out when StyleTails were setting up their Facebook Page. Our services included setting up bespoke page tabs, incorporating a tab designed to increase the number of page followers whilst adding to StyleTails email database. Some basic one-to-one training was also held at the clients office in East London.

Although a small project, it was great fun to work on. We’re looking forward to seeing the winning pooch dressed to the nines in canine couture from LoveMyDog.

If you’re looking for help with setting up professional looking social media accounts then why not get in touch?
